Following the successful renovation of their townhouse, we were commissioned by the same client to transform a dilapidated garage with a hay loft above into a stunning mews home, providing valuable overflow space for family and guests.
The project involved a delicate balance of preserving traditional materials and craftsmanship while incorporating modern comforts. We used locally sourced Caithness stone for the flooring, oak lining for the interiors, and lime render on the walls to maintain the building’s character. Traditional oak windows and doors were carefully selected to enhance the home’s timeless charm. Despite the emphasis on traditional elements, we ensured the property met contemporary standards by incorporating insulation to meet building control requirements, underfloor heating, and discreet feature lighting throughout. The result is a beautifully cohesive space that blends old-world charm with the convenience of modern living — a perfect example of how we combine heritage materials with thoughtful design to create a home that is both functional and full of character.
